Background
Peter studied at the University of Queensland. His PhD project on high temperature synthesis and characterisation of Fe-TiC composites was continued with a post-doc at New Zealand's IRL Crown Research Institute. He has held positions at QUT and Monash developing of on-line learning environments for materials engineering, and led the development of a flexible Masters program at Monash. At the EMU since 2002, his former role was Manager Communications and Telemicroscopy.
Role
As Microanalysis Specialist Peter has a brief to develop the unit's expertise in existing and emerging technologies for chemical and structural analysis. He will work with users and unit staff to promote knowledge sharing and skills transfer. He also plays a role in training and instrument support in the TEM and SEM areas.
Research interests
Peter retains an interest in the use of internet technologies for remote collaboration and instrument control. He principal interest is now in the application of microanalysis techniques to existing research problems.
