The Australian Key Centre for Microscopy and Microanalysis offers a Schools Program that aims to enhance the teaching, learning and enjoyment of microscopy in Australian primary and secondary schools. Microscopes on the Move brings optical and electron microscopy to school classrooms. This project is also supplemented by a number of other initiatives such as our annual Schools Open Days and our participation in Science in the City, held at the Australian Museum in Sydney as part of the National Science Week.
Microscopes on the Move A mobile microscope laboratory that travels to schools and provides an interactive, hands-on experience for students up to year twelve. All major science and technology themes are addressed in a program that includes the use of optical and electron microscopes. Who: Kindergarten to year 12 When: April to September
Schools Open Days An opportunity for senior science students to visit the Australian Key Centre for Microscopy and Microanalysis at the University of Sydney. Get an in-depth hands-on experience of microscopy and its application to their studies in biology, chemistry, physics and the environment. Who: Years 11-12 When: date for 2010 to be confirmed
Teacher Familiarisation Visits Do you want to know more about what Australia's largest microscopy centre can do for your class? Join a teacher familiarisation visit. Who: Teachers When: By appointment
Telemicroscopy Using a laptop and fast internet connection, an advanced electron microscope situated at the University of Sydney can be operated remotely and used to analyse a variety of samples that could not normally be examined at school. Telemicroscopy provides a powerful window on science through technology-based learning infrastructure. Who: Yrs 3-12 When: By appointment
